THE DRIVER’S LICENSE JOURNEY
Step 2
Complete the 30-Hour Online Course
The 30-hour online course includes our Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum plans. The state of Indiana requires students to spend at least 30 hours on the course for 100% completion, prior to progressing to Step 5 (request driving instructor). Although scholars do not have to have the online course completed before obtaining a learner’s permit, the online course provides a foundation for the rules of the road and helps scholars pass the learner’s permit test. Scholars must be at least 15 years old before they can start the 30-hour online course.
Step 3
Take the Written Test at the BMV to Obtain Your Learner’s Permit
All scholars must be at least 15 years old to take the learner’s permit test. Students will need to show proof of a Certificate of Drivers Education Enrollment form (CDE). The CDE form can be downloaded and printed from the Account Info page on the scholar’s online account. In addition, scholars will need to present identification documents, pass a vision screening, and successfully pass the permit test to obtain a learner’s permit.
Step 4
Practice Driving with a Parent, Guardian, Adult, or CCDA
All scholars are required to complete a minimum of 50 hours of driving practice (10 hours after sunset). The practice hours can be completed with a parent, guardian, or adult who is at least 25 years of age. We strongly recommend that scholars have at least 10 hours of driving practice prior to starting drives with CCDA. If scholars are facing difficulty accumulating the required 50 hours to obtain a driver’s license, we highly recommend enrolling in one of our advanced driving plans.
